According to the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, the country is 85% dependent on Russian gas, it has no alternative sources and supply routes, which would allow us to abandon its import

Hungary will use the gas payment scheme proposed by Russia, the foreign minister confirmed to CNN Affairs of the country Peter Szijjarto.

According to him, Budapest has no alternative sources and supply routes that would allow us to abandon the import of Russian energy resources in the next few years.

«85% of gas supplies comes from Russia, 65% of oil supplies come from Russia. Why? Because it is determined by the infrastructure. It's not for fun, we didn't choose this situation, — Szijjártó said.

Payment will be considered completed only from the moment the funds are credited to the ruble account. The Kremlin did not rule out that they could cancel the new payment scheme “if other conditions come.” “Here, in this case, there is nothing reinforced concrete, but in the current conditions, rubles are the most preferable and reliable option for us,” — said the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov.

He also confirmed that “clicking someone on the nose”

was not the purpose of Putin's decision. This was done so that “dollars and euros would not be stolen” from Russia.

In early April, Hungary and the European Union argued whether paying Russia for gas in rubles was a violation of foreign sanctions. Budapest insisted that it intends to adhere to the contracts concluded with Russia, and called the question of what currency to pay in technical.
