A local journalist recalled how the Kazakhs saved the Chechens

Kazakh journalist Sergei Ponomarev responded to the rebuke of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who had previously stated that the member countries (with the exception of Russia) of the Organization Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) positions on the military conflict in Ukraine. An employee of the state television channel KTK recalled how Kazakhs helped deported Chechens in 1944.

Ponomarev stated on social networks that half a million Chechens were deported to Kazakhstan during the Great Patriotic War. According to him, many Chechens remembered the kindness of the Kazakhs who helped them survive.

The journalist also remembered how, even before the start of the first war in Chechnya, he visited Grozny and talked with those who survived the deportation.

“Those who returned home, all as one, with tears in their eyes, spoke about the Kazakhs with such warmth, gratitude and respect! The Kazakhs did not let them die of hunger in the winter steppe, themselves, half-starved, broke the last cake in half and gave shelter to the weakened Chechen children in their huts,” Ponomarev said.

Earlier, Kadyrov reproached the CSTO states (in addition to Russia there includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) in that they did not indicate their position regarding the events on the territory of Ukraine.

The head of Chechnya noted that the authorities of these countries, including Kazakhstan, forgot how they Russia saved its time.

“Why don’t you have a position against Bandera, Nazis and fascists who killed our ancestors?” asked Kadyrov.

Last week, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), announced that Nur-Sultan would not recognize the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, whose sovereignty was previously recognized by Moscow. At the same time, the head of the republic called the DPR and LPR “quasi-state territories.”
