The office of the UN Secretary General said that Guterres is in favor of grain exports from Ukraine and Russia
UN Secretary General António Guterres has always advocated an agreement on the simultaneous export of grain from Ukraine and Russia. This was announced by his official representative Stefan Dujarric, RIA Novosti reports.
“The Secretary General always talked about a package deal for exports from Ukraine and exports from Russia at the same time”,— said Dujarric, responding to criticism by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
One of the UN representatives recalled that the option to export Ukrainian grain through Belarus was one of the first proposals of Guterres.
June 23 Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia Sergey Lavrov said that the UN is slow to respond to an urgent issue with the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.
The head of the department accused the UN Secretary General of trying to solve the problem without taking into account the fact that the Russian military, according to him, daily open corridors for ships to exit. “He wants to first agree on Ukrainian grain, then on Russian grain,” — Lavrov counted.
About 20 tons of grain, according to the UN, were blocked in Ukrainian ports with the outbreak of hostilities in Russia. Vice Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Maurizio Martina warned that the situation could lead to an increase in the number of hungry people in the world by 18 million people.
